About the Name

Nicolas FlamelFLAMEL (pronounced fla-mel), From Learning, Analytics and Materials to Entrepreneurship and Leadership, is named after 15th-century alchemist Nicolas Flamel who was popularized by the Harry Potter book series. According to legend Nicolas Flamel was the creator of the philosopher’s stone, a substance purported to transform materials into gold. In much the same spirit, the Georgia Tech FLAMEL program includes an entrepreneurship component designed to enable trainees to transform innovations in computing, mathematics and materials design and manufacturing into economic value.
